Xiao (Winson) - China

Course: Secondary School Certificate
Insititution: Queensland Government Schools
Location: Brisbane, Queensland

Winson began his study abroad journey at Corinda State High School, Brisbane in December 2007 and is now in his third year studying a Bachelor of Engineering in the School of Engineering at The University of Melbourne.

“I successfully applied for The University of Melbourne upon my graduation from EQI with the help from my course and career advisor in school. Because of the excellent program run by EQI, I found that I was able to pass through the transition phase from high school to university faster than other students my age. EQI’s program prepared me well for life outside of high school in terms of both knowledge and cultural experience.”

Winson chose an Education Queensland International (EQI) international student program to begin his study in Australia because after comparing the high school system across all states in Australia, he was convinced that EQI could provide him a more interesting and fulfilling high school experience.

Whilst in EQI’s program, Winson became a role model to his fellow classmates and more importantly a great supporter to other international students in his school. Winson always displayed willingness to learn and help in school and at his homestay. He was grateful to find his EQI school gave him access to a local community in which he could get involved and be part of what was like a big family.

Winson was the recipient of one of the Queensland Education and Training International Awards for Excellence and Queensland-China Education and Training Awards for Excellence in 2010.
