Samaneh Shokravi - Iran

Course: PhD - Mechanical Engineering
Institute: University of Melbourne
Location: Melbourne, Victoria

I finished my Industrial Engineering master degree at the University of Tehran. I was then awarded a full IPRS and MIRS scholarships to pursue my research career as a PhD candidate at the Mechanical Engineering department of the University of Melbourne.

The services and opportunities that are provided to the students at the University of Melbourne were quite astonishing for me.  It is not comparable with University experience back in Iran. These services and opportunities allowed me to broaden my perspectives, try extracurricular activities and as a result I received three engagement awards to connect with the broader community and empower individuals for a more sustainable future.

I also proved successful in research and received four travel scholarships to attend international conferences and present the result of my academic research. I initiated number of international and national collaborations and managed to secure two research grants to continue my research in Industrial and manufacturing sustainability. I am currently working at the University of Melbourne that is the best university in Australia.

I am glad I chose Australia for my PhD studies, as the serene and friendly environment of the country as well as the university assist me to overcome the stress and pressure that an international student might feel.

The beautiful sceneries around Australia, the magnificent city of Melbourne and the abundant of opportunities to have an adventure are like a cherry on top of my fantastic time in Australia.

Now that the PhD is finished I am freer to explore the country and enjoy what it has to offer with no worries in the world.  The multicultural atmosphere of Melbourne makes everyone at home and sometimes you forget that you are living in a foreign country. The nationalities from around the globe are coming together in this amazing city to form a cohesive and jubilant community that I love.
