Jeet Bahadur Chand - Nepal

Course: Master of Water Resouces Management
Institute: University of South Australia
URL: www.unisa.edu.au/study-at-unisa/international-students/
Location: South Australia

After completion of my bachelor degree in agricultural engineering from Tribhuwan University of Nepal, I joined public service job in January 2007. I worked in far-western development region which is very remote and least developed region of Nepal for four years continually.

In 2011, I got AusAID scholarship to pursue master degree in water resources management. I chose University of South Australia as my host institution. Undoubtedly, I found UniSA is one of the best university of the world because it has high quality standards for higher degree. For example: helpful and outstanding teaching and administrative faculty, well-equipped lab and library, variety of electives subjects and healthy social environment.

During study program, I did many site visits for practical demonstration including Hope Valley Water Treatment Plant, Bolivar Waste water Treatment Plant, North Adelaide Plain and etc where I got good chance to observe and discuss many fundamentals of water. In addition, due to great support from program director Guna Hewa and my supervisor Ali Hassanly, I got golden opportunity to conduct major industry project in last semester of my study. From industry project, I learnt many lessons and practical insights in micro-irrigation development and management.

Australia is very rich in water management sector and it was my cornerstone in academic career to join UniSA as a postgraduate student in water. Although, the education system of Australia is little different to my country, continuous effort and dedication to study can easily help to solve the gap.

In addition, the accommodation system of Australia is well managed. Although it is relatively costlier, we can find varieties of accommodation there including fully-furnished, semi-furnished and unfurnished rooms as per our requirements. Australian landlords are very friendly and they can support as much as possible.

I am quite satisfied and happy with Australian degree as it has given me many opportunities to know global education and linking with globally recognized persons and institutions. After returning to my home in August 2012, I am continuing my old job in Ministry of Agriculture Development. I am feeling quite confidence in planning and managing of irrigation water resources after master degree. Thanks AusAID and UniSA for providing me such huge platform to enrich my personal as well as professional career.
