Franky Angkawijaya - Indonesia

Course: Bachelor of Commerce (Tourism Management)
Institute: Curtin University
Location: Perth, Western Australia

Franky Angkawijaya loved Australia but he especially loved the coffee culture he experienced during his study. He completed two qualifications: a Diploma from Sydney International College of Tourism & Hotel Management and a Bachelor degreee from Curtin University of Technology in Commerce (Tourism Management). His degrees helped build his dream to develop the coffee culture in Jakarta.

Naturally, his working experience while studying had provided him with hands on knowledge in the food and beverage industry as well as good network and colleagues whom eventually became business partners.

In 2006, he established PT Harvest Coffee Forenity and a barista school: Esperto Barista Course. He saw when cafes and restaurants are abundant in Indonesia's big cities, good baristas are lacking.

According to his website,, Franky first went back to Australia to learn from a master barista the art and expertise in becoming a professional barista. Franky has now run a busy barista school, Monolog Quality Coffee and De Luca cafes operating in Jakarta, Indonesia.

His tips on surviving study and work in Australia is: to "Be well-organised and know where you want to go to achieve what you want to achieve. In the end you can survive and be happy with your achievements".
