Studying abroad in Australia was a perfect opportunity for me to diversify my university experience by learning in a new environment and culture, studying courses not offered in Canada and meeting other students from around the world. Australia was the perfect fit for me because I've only heard great things about the country and the best way to experience life in Australia was to be fully immersed in it through my studies.

There are definitely many benefits of studying in Australia! A big one for me was to be able to experience university in an English setting where I could take really great courses that aren't offered in Canada and learn from globally renowned professors. I had only heard great things about the quality of the Australian academic system and acceptance of international students, so Australia seemed to be the country where I would best fit in. Plus, Australia has such an amazing natural landscape and environment so I had to go check it out!

My experience studying abroad in Australia has taught me how to adapt to a new and changing environment and become more aware of cross-cultural communication. As an international student I was challenged to be more outgoing (because I had to make a whole new set of friends!) and by studying in a country where I didn't know anyone or places to go, I had to motivate myself to explore my surroundings by getting involved in campus life and taking risks on a daily basis.

I had such a great time studying in Australia that when I came back to my home university for graduation, I wanted to promote studying abroad to everyone and give students the opportunity to have an amazing experience while at school. The skills I gained through studying in Australia has encouraged me to pursue a career in Recruitment and Admissions at my home university, St. Francis Xavier in Nova Scotia. My study abroad experience, combined with a first class academic experience at St Francis Xavier has only triggered my passion to tell students about the many benefits of university at both St Francis Xavier University and abroad.
