Charles Lee - Singapore

Engineer Charles Lee graduated with a BE (Civil) (Hons) from Monash University and is a 15-year volunteer in the Monash University Alumni Singapore (MUAS) – an alumni network which covers more than 10,000 Monash graduates based in Singapore.

Charles accumulated more than 30 years of experiences in Civil Engineering and currently helms Improtech Pte Ltd as their Managing Director which he established in 1997. Under his leadership, the company has expanded with offices in Malaysia, Indonesia, Korea and Thailand.

Amongst his notable successes include establishing operations in Papua New Guinea for a US$10million Palm Oil processing plant from 1986-1988 and overseeing the successful completion of soil improvement project at Pasir Panjang New Container Terminal worth S$52 million. He also successfully applied and being granted a S$300,000 Innovation Grant from the Singapore Government for the Paperless Work Flow process.

An active member of the Monash University Alumni Singapore (MUAS), Charles served as its President from 2008 - 2010 and is instrumental in growing its members from a modest group of 250 alumni to being all inclusive to all Singapore based Monash Alumni. Since its inception, Charles has been actively involved in various committee positions and plays a key role in organizing professional networking opportunities and regional activities such as competitive sports and cycling tours.

At the 20th anniversary of the Monash University Distinguished Alumni Awards ceremony held in September, Charles was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Service Award to recognize his dedication and contributions to the Monash Alumni society in Singapore.

Charles shared how his Australian education has shaped his vision for the civil engineering industry in Singapore.

“The experiences over the 4 years in Monash University and in Melbourne exposed me to the culture and approach to the unique Australian lifestyle. It helps me mould my personal character and corporate approach to my staff and clients. The valuable experiences gained in Melbourne have encouraged my daughter to complete her Business degree in University of Newcastle, Australia.”
