Ameer - Bahrain

Institution: Australian National University
Location: Canberra

A desire to do something different from his high school friends motivated Ameer to leave his native Bahrain more than five years ago. He stumbled upon a prospective student guide for an Australian university and decided it would be “the perfect place” to study and discover new challenges. Now, having graduated with a double degree in commerce and information technology, Ameer is confident he made the right choice.

“I feel that I’ve received the best education, not only in terms of academic knowledge but also life and people skills. Australia is a very exciting and challenging place to be,” he said.

Ameer lists learning how to be independent as one of the most important outcomes of his university experience.

"Australian education teaches student independence—that is one quality which makes it stand out from the rest of the world. Most companies will view Australian graduates as independent and outgoing."

When Ameer started to search for a job he found that many employers were impressed with his Australian qualifications. It took less than a month for him to find a position, and he currently works as a finance officer.
