About the speaker
"Prof. Robles-Kelly received a B.Eng. degree in Electronics and Telecommunications with honours in 1998 and a PhD in Computer Science from the University of York, UK, in 2003. He remained in York until Dec. 2004 under the MathFit-EPSRC framework and, in 2005, he moved to Australia and took a research scientist appointment with National ICT Australia (NICTA). In 2006 he became the project leader of the Imaging Spectroscopy team at NICTA and, from 2007 to 2009, he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow of the Australian Research Council. In 2016, he joined CSIRO where he was a Principal Researcher with Data61. He moved to Deakin University in 2018 to take up a Chair in AI and Machine Learning at the School of Information Technology. His research interests are in the areas of pattern recognition, machine learning, computer vision and artificial intelligence. Along these lines, he has done work on segmentation and grouping, graph-matching, inference on graphical models, imaging spectroscopy, shape-from-X and reflectance models. His research has found applications in areas such as database organisation, agriculture, forensics, biometrics, computer graphics and environmental management."
