Australian Government introduces a new “Post Study Work Visa”
for international students who wish to work in Australia after completing an Australian university degree
The Australian Government has introduced a new Post Study Work Visa that will allow international students who have completed a university degree in Australia to work in Australia for 2 to 4 years.
It is proposed that international university graduates who have completed a Bachelor degree or a Masters by coursework in Australia will be eligible for a two year post-study work visa.
University graduates who have completed a Masters by research or a PhD degree in Australia are proposed to be eligible for a post-study work visa for three or four years respectively.
This visa would be available to those students who obtain their first Student Visa following the proposed introduction of the new Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirement, which commenced in late 2011.
This is a simple on-line assessment which works very much like the current Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) process ascertaining that the purpose of the request for a visa is to study.
The Knight Review on student visas was released recently with 41 recommendations including the above accepted by Cabinet.
More updates regarding the introduction of the new visa will continue to be published as they become available on: www.immi.gov.au/students/knight/
