Rachel, England

Institution: Murdoch University

Rachel is learning about animals she would never have studied if she had stayed in the United Kingdom (UK). Her Australian degree will also allow her to work in vet clinics around the world.

“A wider variety of animals are covered here than would be studied in the UK—for example, alpacas! And the course allows me to work in both the UK and the United States when I graduate,” she said.

Rachel’s course is “very interesting” and the teaching staff and course materials are preparing her well for the profession. She is receiving the technical skills and knowledge necessary to become a vet, as well as how to communicate effectively and be independent.

“I think that future employers will look favourably on my study abroad, as travelling to a different country alone, without any family or friends, requires certain skills and helps to develop independence and communication skills,” she said.

Rachel likes the sun and the “very friendly” Australian people. She feels at home in Australia.

“I love living here and feel very at home. I have lots of friends, a car, a dog, a cat and feel as much at home here as I do in the UK when I’m visiting friends and family,” she said. “So far there is nothing I dislike except the flights required to visit friends and family at home!”
