Kirsty
Zimbabwe
Institution: WA TAFE
Kirsty has friends and family living in Australia, and had also visited
previously for a holiday. So when she arrived in Western Australia to
undertake a TAFE fitness course with the aim of qualifying as a personal
trainer, she knew what to expect.
Still, Kirsty points out that it takes a little while to settle into
living in a new country. “You get home sick, but once you make friends
you will be fine, and studying in Australia will be great fun,” she
says.
The study style was also different to back home, but Kirsty says: “I
like the environment that Australia provides. Lecturers make it fun to
study here.”
She believes that the key to enjoying your study experience is keeping
up-to-date with course work during semester. Good organisation allows
you time to have fun and enjoy the atmosphere of living in another
country.
Already working in the fitness industry, Kirsty is now completing the
second stage of her study program, which will allow her to work as a
personal trainer. She says that the training she received, especially
the work placement, has helped her to understand her chosen field better
and prepared her for entering the workforce. “The education provided is
exactly what you would need to succeed in the industry.”
And to sum up her experience? “Great weather, great people, great fun.”
