Institution: Central Queensland University
Recent science graduate Hnin Ei Phyu says that the high quality of
education she has received in Australia has inspired her “to try harder
and do better.”
Having received some credit for previous study, Hnin was able to
complete her degree in less than three years. Now she is continuing her
biomedical science studies by taking honours in pharmacology, looking at
the use of stevia (a plant) in treating cardiovascular diseases.
She has also found work as a laboratory demonstrator and researcher on
campus.
Originally from Myanmar (Burma), Hnin is staying with family in
Australia. “As Australia is a multicultural country, I don’t have big
problems dealing with people. I feel pretty much at home. In other
words, Australia has become my new home with a brighter future,” she
says.
Hnin also feels welcome at her university. “Although I’m an
international student, people here, from faculties, classmates and
everybody, have treated me equally as if I’m a local and have helped me
in every way.”
After completing her honours degree, Hnin plans to apply to study
medicine, but whatever career direction she decides on, she feels her
studies are an investment in her future.
“I believe that Australia specialises not only in my field but also in
any vocational education—that’s why we will achieve the skills that the
employers are after.”
Her advice to prospective international students: “If you are looking
for great studies and a great life, don’t think twice—studying in
Australia is the right choice.”
