Virginia realises how important education is now that she is working as a surveyor in the construction industry. She graduated at the end of 2005 and was quick to put her new knowledge and skills to the test in a graduate job.
“Education in any capacity is a great asset. I am pleased with my qualifications. I managed to get a job with ease even before I had finished university and I am enjoying my job as a quantity surveyor,” she said.
Virginia moved from Zimbabwe to study in Australia because she wanted a different experience and to attend an institution with a good international reputation.
“I wanted to explore a new environment with weather similar to home. The university also offered the course that I wanted to study, and the qualification one receives is internationally recognised, which is important to me.”
Virginia says that university in Australia “equips you with a degree but also teaches you how to think and reason for yourself. That is really important because you are better able to deal with life in the real world because you practice that at university.”
Having completed her own studies, Virginia has these words for people considering a similar path: “Go for it! The experience is worth it. You get to know yourself more, make great friends and receive an internationally recognised qualification.”
