Saraswati
Indonesia
Institution attended: University of Adelaide, University
of Melbourne
Saraswati completed her undergraduate studies in dentistry
at an overseas institution then came to Australia to specialise in
orthodontics—a decision she is glad she made.
“I am very happy and
satisfied with the quality of education. I feel equipped and confident with my
knowledge and my skills. I can provide the best for my patients’ care,” she
said.
Saraswati was lured to Australia by the quality of education and
training available. The proximity to Indonesia and the affordable cost of
tuition also influenced her decision to study here.
Saraswati graduated
nearly two years ago and has been working as an orthodontic specialist in the
public sector.
“As an Australian-trained orthodontist, I am respected by
my employers and professionals in my specialty field. My specialist training
prepared me well for specialist practice. However, my overseas general dental
training limits my current work options to within the public sector,” she said.
“When an appropriate position was offered, the transition from study to work was
smooth.”
Saraswati has some words of advice for people who are
considering studying in Australia: “Be open-minded, be smart in taking good
opportunities to build a network. Plan your future as early as possible, but
keep all of your options open, you never know what’s around the
corner.”
