Cassandra was searching for “a great
environment in which to study” when she discovered South Australia. She moved
there from her home in Malaysia to begin studying pharmacy some years ago.
Cassandra believes her studies have helped her to view life from a different
perspective and to gain confidence in her profession.
“I think anyone who has
studied in Australia will hopefully gain a different perspective on their field
of practice. You get to know different cultures, and see how people work in your
field in another country. I am certainly more independent having done so, and it
has boosted my confidence in my abilities as a whole,” she said.
Cassandra found
university staff to be supportive and helpful, and believes her Australian
pharmacy degree offered effective and thorough preparation for her career.
“Everything I have learned during my studies, ranging from body functions to
disease, has been useful in my career as a pharmacist.”
Cassandra now works as a
pharmacist, and knows that her Australian qualification will help her to pursue
her career goals.
“My qualifications are recognised internationally. With my
qualifications and the experience I have gained in Australia, I will also be
able to work in the United Kingdom and New Zealand,” she said.
Cassandra decided
to study in a smaller Australian city so there would be fewer distractions. Yet,
she still found plenty to see and do.
“There is so much to do here in Australia.
There are many new experiences that you don’t get in Malaysia such as fruit
picking, horse riding and camping. You don’t need to go far from the city and it
makes life much more interesting than just high rise buildings and shopping
centres,” she said.
