Mixed field programs provide general and personal development education covering literacy and numeracy skills and social, personal and workplace relationships.
Some of the courses in this field are non-award, which means you are not awarded a qualification after completing them. These courses may be taken alongside your university or Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualifications.

1205 - Employment skills
Students studying in this field develop job searching and employment related skills, such as understanding work practices and career development pathways.
There are no university qualifications in this field. You can study a certificate IV in skills for career development as an entry level qualification in career development. Other courses include certificate IV in assessment and workplace training, and a diploma of logistics.
By studying in this field you will develop skills in planning for your career and deciding what you are good at. You will also learn about what it takes to find a job, which includes writing a resume and gaining interview and presentation skills. The subject of work practices gives you the skills to communicate in the workplace, work individually and in teams.
1203 - Social skills
Social skills programs include developing skills for interacting with your family and people in various social settings.
Subjects in this field may include personal and social relationships, social etiquette, and interpersonal communication. Parenting education and skills programs also come under this field of study.
Subjects that come under survival skills programs include the skills you need for managing a household, such as basic home economics and banking.
1201 - General education
General education programs help students develop the general knowledge, skills and competencies they need to complete further education and learning.
Students develop a base level of understanding in areas such as literacy, mathematics, history, natural science and study methods.
There are many VET options in this field, including certificates in Year 12 studies, foundation studies and spoken and written English. There is also an advanced diploma of interpreting and translating available.
General primary and secondary education programs are usually run through TAFE colleges and other registered training organisations.
Students may complete a general education program as a requirement to gain employment, or as an alternative pathway into VET or university studies.
Postgraduate options in this field include graduate diplomas in adult literacy and numeracy and basic education.
Learning skills programs are used to develop skills for study, including fine-tuning research skills and general report writing.
