Applying for admission to Australia and the institution of your choice is a straightforward process. You will need to:
1. Select your course and institution
You will find information about the courses and institutions at Course Search. You will need to select the course and institution that you wish to apply to.
2. Obtain an application form
You can obtain an application form from either a local Australian education agent or the institution's nominated contact officer. The Australian Education Centre or Australian Embassy in your country can provide a list of local Australian education agents or details of the institution's nominated contact officer.
3. Collect other documents relevant to your application
This will typically include:
- a document with the name of the institution you are applying to, the name of the course you are applying for and second and third course preferences at the same institution
- full details of previous study, including copies of qualifications already awarded to you
- evidence of your English language proficiency (for undergraduate and postgraduate studies, and vocational education and training)
If you are unsure what documents you should provide then contact the institution you have selected. If you are currently enrolled in a course of study, you might be granted provisional acceptance on the basis of previous academic performance in anticipation that your final examination results do not differ greatly from the grades already attained.
4. Submit the application form
After filling in your application form, you should attach all the required documents and submit them direct to the institutions. Depending on the country you are from and the institution you have selected, you may be instructed to send your form to either:
- a local agent of the institution in your country, or
- to the international office or nominated contact officer of the institution
5. Receive confirmation of enrolment
The institution will assess your application and supporting documents and advise if you meet the entry requirements and will be admitted. If successful, the institution will send you a letter of offer. Depending on your country of nationality and the education sector of your study you may be required to undergo a pre-visa assessment before the institution issues an Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE). The eCoE is the only accepted evidence of enrolment for processing student visa applications.
You may be required to pay tuition fees before applying for the student visa. The institution will advise you of its requirements but generally it will require payment of at least one semester of course fees.

In some countries you can also attend a pre-departure seminar to familiarise yourself with studying and living in Australia.
Your institution can arrange for reception at the airport on your arrival in Australia. You can be sure that throughout your stay in Australia institutions will provide an orientation program and an excellent range of specialist support services for international students.
