Reinforcing quality in international education

International education in Australia is being strengthened following a number of changes to the Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000.

The re-registration of all providers currently registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS) by 31 December 2010 is a part of the Education Services for Overseas Students Amendment (Re-registration of Providers and Other Measures) Act 2010 that was passed by the Parliament on 22 February 2010 and received Royal Assent on 3 March 2010. The Act will take effect immediately.

What does this mean for me?

As of 1 January 2011, all institutions and colleges that are registered to provide education to international students will have had to pass through a new tougher registration process.  They have proven that their main business is to provide education and training and that they have the capacity to deliver quality services.

These institutions and colleges will also be required to publicly list (for example on their website) the education agents they use in recruiting international students.  This will provide you with greater confidence when selecting an agent to help you to study in Australia.
