Why Tasmania?
Tasmania is Australia’s beautiful island state, with plants and animals found nowhere else on earth. One-fifth of the island is designated as a World Heritage Area, with 16 national parks, rising mountains, pristine forests, meandering rivers, white sandy beaches, and the cleanest air in the world. The island is also well known for its art and music festivals, fine culinary offerings and vineyards, and receives accolades as the best island in the South Pacific. Tasmania’s unspoiled natural beauty, temperate climate, safe and friendly environment, and small population (less than 500,000) draws an active scientific, artistic and cultural community.
The city of Hobart is the political and commercial center of Tasmania. As the second oldest city in Australia (after Sydney), rich in historical reminders of its colonial past. Cosmopolitan Hobart has numerous attractions, including concert halls, theaters, museums, and excellent restaurants.
