Recruitment of international graduates on the rise
An annual survey of graduate employers by Graduate Careers Australia (GCA), shows an increase in the proportion of employers recruiting international graduates - good news for international students studying in Australia.
The proportion of employers who recruited international graduates rose from 15.7% in 2005 to 30.8% in 2011, according to the survey.
The largest increase was recorded in the Communication, Technology and Utilities sector. Employers from the Accounting and Finance; Manufacturing; and Construction, Mining and Engineering sectors also tended to hire more international graduates in 2011 compared to previous years.
The survey also found that Australian employers are now favouring social networking sites, such as Facebook and LinkedIn, and employee referrals in hiring graduates. Almost 30% of respondents used the social networking sites, up from 24.3% in 2012. Two in five companies in the survey rated Facebook as an "effective" or "very effective" for promoting graduate recruitment programmes.
A total of 518 graduate employers from throughout Australia and New Zealand responded to the most recent Graduate Outlook Survey.
